A day for colouring

Yesterday was one of those colouring days. I’ve always loved to colour ever since I was a little girl…I find it relaxing and therapeutic. I realize though that not everyone likes to color.  When I pull out the colouring tools for a class, I often hear groans and panic because they feel like they don’t know how to blend colours to make them look nice.

I’m here to tell you that you will LOVE our Stampin’ Blends. These high-quality, dual-tip markers in Stampin’ Up! exclusive colours will open a whole new world of colouring creativity for you. I promise.
Stampin'BlendsI must admit that I am a sucker for Rifle Co. prints. I have a calendar, plenty of notebooks, and I absolutely love the color combinations in their artwork. I recently received this lovely notecard from a dear friend and knew I had to make a copy of it! So I pulled out my Stampin’ Blends yesterday and set to work. I scribbled a bunch of the colours that I thought would be a match. :)
Ornate-Garden-1Next I pulled out the brand new Ornate Style stamp set that will be in the new 2020-2021 Annual Catalogue. That floral bouquet was perfect!
Ornate-Garden-2After I finished coloring, I hand-cut all around the edge of the image staying as close as I could to the black outline. I was then left with the white spots in the middle. I could’ve taken my exacto knife and painfully cut all those little bits out, but that’s way too much work – even for ME! LOL! So here’s a tip. Because this bouquet was going onto black cardstock, I took my dark Basic Black Blends and just colored in those spots!
Ornate-Garden-3What do you think? I did it!! I’m pretty happy with the outcome…

Create easy backgrounds

Do you ever see something in a store and think to yourself,  I wonder if I could create something like that? This happens to me a lot. Last weekend, I was in a little collective shop here in Melbourne (owned by a family friend of the Marks’ family) and I fell in love with her watercolor prints. I couldn’t help but buy several as gifts to bring home. Aren’t these beautiful?Creative-Backgrounds-10Immediately my mind went to watercoloring with our watercolor paper and an Aquapainter. However, I don’t have access to my entire stamp room back home. :) Samantha has a few things, but watercolor paper is not one of them. And I had to work with the colors of ink pads that she has.

So here’s my first attempt. I just used my Aquapainter very carefully on Whisper White cardstock.Creative-Backgrounds-2 Again, with limited supplies (some old style ink pads and some new style ink pads), I put a black matte behind it and raised it up with dimensionals onto a 3-1/2″ x 5″ notecard. Creative-Backgrounds-5 Did you know that you can use any Stampin’ Spots you have to dab ink onto a clear block and pick up the color from there? It works just the same as squishing your stamp pad lid. I was pretty happy with my first creative attempt at this background design.

For the other one, I tried to use our Blends Markers to create a simple wash look.   Creative-Backgrounds-3It doesn’t get any easier than that. I just used 3 color combos and then stamped this clever little stamp from the Witty-cisms Stamp Set in the mini catalogue. Creative-Backgrounds-6So that was my little creative play for today. I want to encourage you to pull out some stamping supplies and just PLAY. See what you can come up with. How many different color combinations can you come up with? Bonanza-Buddies-5And seeing as I’m in Australia right now, I thought it would be fitting to show you some adorable koala bear cards.

Bonanza-Buddies-3And we made this one at our team meeting in January. (The design is Bronwyn Eastley’s.) How cute is this??!! Mini easel cards!

Before I go, maybe you want to see some REAL koala bears :) This was from our last trip to Australia. My husband took these! To see koalas in the wild is pretty rare. We were thrilled to say the least.
