Fun Fold Card – Arrow Fold

Today I have a fun fold card idea for you. My friend and fellow team member Lorna Raczynski created her take on an arrow fold card. My Stamp Club ladies were lucky enough to make one at their class this past week and they all loved it!
Love-of-Leaves-7Again…I’m just loving the fall colors. I’ll talk a bit about the product she used, but first let me show you how to make an Arrow Card. This is what it looks like on the inside.
Love-of-Leaves-7aCut a card base (5-1/2″ x 8″1/2″ …scored at 4-1/4″). Grab a pencil and a ruler and follow this template. Mark the center point of your card front (2-3/4″) and score from the middle score line on each side to that point. Then, measure 2″ up from each side, and score to that same point. Erase your pencil marks and fold along those lines.  Use a bone folder to really sharpen the creases.
Love-of-Leaves-7bFor the colored mat, cut a piece of cardstock 4″ x 5″.  Mark the center of that (2-1/2″) and this time cut from each corner down to that point. Love-of-Leaves-7dThose 3 pieces will now fit perfectly on the front of your card. (sorry…this photo is a bit blurry.)
Love-of-Leaves-7cIt’s that easy. Now you just decorate the rest of your Arrow Fold card.

Playing with Fall Colors

The leaves are changing color and I put on a pair of wool socks yesterday. What?
Fall-Quotes-1Fall leaves can provide some very pretty color combos to inspire our creativity. I’d like to share a card today that uses some sponging and watercoloring techniques.
Love-of-Leaves-2The card base is simply a Whisper White 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″  scored in half at 4-1/4″. (I use our Thick Whisper White Cardstock for all my bases.)

A few steps:
1. Start with a 3-1/2″ square piece of watercolor paper. I masked off 1/4″ all around the edge using post-it notes. Our grid paper comes in very handy…each square is 1/4″!
masking2. Now sponge Soft Suede ink around the edges. Just make sure you sponge off a bit of ink onto your grid sheet first. Come at it from the edges so it’s not so dark as soon as you put your sponge down. Does that make sense? Start light. You can always add more. Once you’re happy with how it looks, you can remove the post-it notes. You will be surprised at how lovely it looks with a border around the edge.

3. Take your leaf stamp and ink it up with our new Bumblebee ink. Flip it over and sponge some Cajun Craze and Soft Suede right onto the stamp. Give it a little “huff” and then stamp it onto your watercolor square. I stamped mine over to the left side so I would have enough room for my sentiment. You might even want to stamp your greeting first so you know how much room you have.

4. Your leaf will look quite light and washed out. But now the magic starts! Take a water painter (aka aquapainter) and begin to blend the colors on your stamped image. I even dabbed on some extra ink from the lid of my stamp pads to darken it up a bit. Play around with it. It will look different each time.

5. Let it dry…and if you’re inpatient like me, you can heat set it with your embossing tool. Now center the stitched leaf die over your leaf and run it through your die-cutting machine. It will give it that beautiful stitched detail.

6. Finally, die-cut your finished piece using our layering square dies. I used the largest square which is 3″.

7. Finishing touches…off-set it a bit and pop up the middle with dimensionals. Tie a gold bow and attach with glue dots. Voila!

Did you know?
I purchased my starter kit at this time of year and it was perfect timing for all those holiday crafters. It was pretty easy to get orders from friends and family right off the get go. So many people love to give handmade gifts and cards at Christmas. Even if they don’t consider themselves crafty, there’s just something about the holidays that makes them want to try it out.

We even have four Christmas Kits in the mini catalogue.

Hello Fall

I cannot get enough of the stitched look in papercrafting. The detail just seems to dress up every image. This fall card showcases some of our new embellishments.
Love-of-Leaves-3I die-cut the letters FALL using the new Playful Alphabet dies and hung them from one of the gold hoops to create a little banner. Then I added a metal acorn trinket to the linen thread bow. Those acorn trinkets are stinkin’ adorable. And they will coordinate with all your fall projects. You NEED them!

Take a closer look at the Mint Macaron strip on the card. I used that stitched line die that comes in that set (Stitched Leaves Dies). It almost looks like patterned paper. So cool. I did use a small piece of striped DSP from the Gilded Autumn Specialty DSP pack to die-cut one of the leaves.

It has quite a bit of dimension on it, so if you mail this you I would suggest that you add some padding by way of an extra piece of cardstock or even a layer of tissue paper to protect the embellishments…and it will be extra postage as well. Thankfully, this one isn’t going in the mail:)

I also had a gift bag that needed a tag today, so I whipped up this super simple tag with some of the leftover leaves on my desk. I added a little bit shimmer with our new Elegant Faceted Gems. I hope you like it.

Get&Go Details-1Are you thinking about it?
Do you have a few friends that like to papercraft as well? When I purchased my starter kit, I had been getting together with friends to make cards. Just a girls night here and there…or at a weekend retreat…I envisioned that I would sign up and then they could get all their supplies from me. In turn, I would make a little bit of money.

So that’s what I did. And then THEY told people that they knew to order from me.  And so it began. Friends help friends along the journey. You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. If you love Stampin’ Up! product, you have nothing to lose and so much to gain. I treasure the friendships that have come out of my Stampin’ Up! journey. Many of them will be life-long.

Cheers to Stampin’ Up!
